1. What is IELTS?
IELTS, or the International English Language Testing
System, is designed to assess an applicant's English language
ability. The test result is measured in levels or
bands.

2. What is the minimum English Language level
requirement?
The IELTs requirement is different for onshore and offshore
applicants.
If you are an onshore applicant, to assist in
obtaining a 485 visa you must show evidence of IELTS Academic or
General Test Report Form (TRF) with a band score of at least six on
each of the four components - speaking, reading, listening and
writing.
If you are an offshore applicant, you must show
evidence of the successful completion of a minimum IELTS academic
score of Band 7 in each of the four components.

3. How do I enrol in IELTS?
Visit www.ielts.org for
information about the IELTS enrolment process.

4. How do I provide my IELTS documentation?
You will be required to supply a certified copy of your Test
Report Form.
The IPA will complete the necessary checks to confirm your
result.

5. What if I have misplaced my Test Report Form?
Please contact IELTS to discuss your options.

6. For how long are the IELTS TRF valid?
IPA will only accept IELTS TRF that is not more than two years
old from the test date shown on the TRF.

7. I am a citizen of an English
speaking country, e.g. UK, USA. Do I have need to provide IELTS
documentation?
Yes. There are no exemptions. All applicants will be assessed
against the same criteria, including the English language
requirement.

8. I have had my assessment
completed and received a "suitable" assessment outcome from
National Institute of Accountants (NIA). Is this still valid
without an IELTS test report?
The National Institute of Accountants is now known as the
Institute of Public Accountants. If your assessment was
completed before 1 July 2010, your assessment is valid for five
years.
All other assessments are valid for two years only.
