International Students Onshore Applicants

If you are currently studying in Australia or have recently
completed an Australian award you will need to follow two
steps:
- Apply for a 485 visa, and
- Follow up on expiration of the 485 visa

In order to apply for a 485 visa you must be assessed by the
Institute of Public Accountants as having:
- a formal qualification at least comparable to an Australian
Bachelor degree;
- completed at least 9 of the 12 core knowledge areas at tertiary
level. Each nominated occupation has 4 mandatory core knowledge
areas; and
- an IELTS Academic/General Training Test Report Form (TRF)
showing a band score of at least 6 in each of the four
components. This form must be not more than two years old
from the test date shown on the TRF.

A Step 1 assessment carries a fee of AUD400.

A successful 485 visa assessment as noted at Step 1 allows
the visa holders to remain in Australia for 18 months to complete
either:
- the Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA)
or
- IELTS Academic TRF showing a band score of at least 7 in each
of the four components.
The IPA will update assessments with reference to the
documentation provided by the applicant.
The second assessment carries a fee of AUD80.
Both assessments must be completed by the same assessing
authority.
On completion of the second assessment, you may now
lodge your application for permanent residence with
DIAC.
The completion of SMIPA or the attainment of IELTS Academic
English with a band score of at least 7 will provide the applicant
with points under the General Skilled Migration (GSM) points
test.
