The Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA) is a professional year program approved by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

The program is available to overseas students who have obtained an Australian accounting qualification as a result of at least two years full time study in Australia.

The program has been jointly developed by the Institute of Public Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and CPA Australia, and is delivered by providers jointly approved by all three bodies.

The professional accounting bodies have no financial interest, direct or indirect, in any of the SMIPA providers and do not receive any financial benefits from the program.

The professional accounting bodies oversee activities connected to SMIPA.

Enrolment in any of the accounting bodies' professional development programs is independent of an individual's participation in SMIPA or any other DIAC approved pathways to Permanent Residency.
