1. How will this qualification assessment assist me in my application for migration?

  • From 1 July 2011, points will no longer be awarded on the basis of an applicant's occupation.
  • However all applicants must nominate an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List. 
  • Student visa holders - Applicants who lodge a General Skilled Migration (GSM) application with DIAC for points tested skilled migration from 1 July 2011 will be assessed under the new points test.

2. I have lodged an application for points tested skilled migration to DIAC before 1 July 2011.  Will I get any points for my occupation?

3. What is the new pass mark for skilled migration?

The pass mark is the number of points required to be eligible for skilled migration.  The new pass mark is 65 points.

4. Which factors will be affected by the new points test?

The new test does not give undue weight to any one factor and recognises a broader range of skills and attributes.  The changes focus on:

  • Better English levels
  • More extensive skilled work employment
  • Higher level qualifications obtained in Australia and overseas
  • Changes to age ranges

5. Who determines the points for the purposes of migration?

The Institute of Public Accountants does not award points.

Decisions on points are made by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
