What is a Skilled Employment Assessment?

From 1 July 2011 the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) will
assess skilled employment for migration purposes.
Applicants are still required to nominate an occupation from the
Skilled Occupation List in order for skilled employment to be
considered.
The IPA will review the evidence submitted to determine whether
the applicant has the skills required to work in their nominated
occupation. An outcome letter will be issued by the IPA.
The outcome letter advice provided by the IPA as assessing body
in relation to qualifications and/or skilled employment will be a
relevant consideration for DIAC officers in determining whether or
not to award points for qualifications and/or skilled employment
under the new points test.
Applicants will need to lodge the skilled employment outcome
letter with their permanent residence application to DIAC, who will
make the final decision on whether the skilled employment is
relevant to the nominated occupation and whether points will be
awarded under the new points test. The final decision on
awarding points is made by DIAC.
If you have had your qualifications assessed previously, you
must lodge your skilled employment application with the same
assessing body that completed your qualifications
assessment. You must have received a 'suitable' outcome of
your qualifications.
If you are submitting your qualifications and skilled employment
evidence for assessment at the same time, the IPA will assess your
skilled employment only if your qualifications are assessed as
'suitable'.
Please refer to IPA's FAQs on the assessment of skilled
employment. The FAQs will also advise on evidence
requirements.
