IPA supports the appropriate use of small business benchmarks by the ATO in its cash economy compliance activities as a risk assessment tool. The small business benchmarks are used to help the ATO to identify taxpayers who may be under-reporting income in their tax returns. The use of benchmarking is a valuable tool for any business and its use is both sensible and good business practice.
