The ACCC estimates that Australians lost over $3 billion in 2018 to various scams and cyber-attacks. 1 in 4 Australian small to medium businesses experienced a cyber-attack in 2019 costing an average of $11,299 per incident.

With 23 years of combined policing experience behind them, Ben Johnson and Rob Thomson have commenced working with the private sector to increase awareness and provide solutions to the emerging cyber threat. Ben and Rob currently work within the Queensland Police Cyber and Identity Crime unit and have formed Stay Safe Cyber Solutions, to provide “prevention through education” to assist businesses.

Recent litigations cases involving SMSF auditors created what is arguably the most concern and uncertainty amongst auditors than ever before. Consequently, the ATO recently released its response and guidance material, specifically relating to the auditor’s responsibility regarding the fund’s investment strategy along with evidence and reporting requirements relating to investments in private trusts and companies to assist SMSF auditors. This session will discuss in detail the ATO’s recent guidance material and concerns and the implication for SMSF auditors.
