Government reversal on self-education cap – a smart move

The Government's announcement to scrap proposed capping of self-education expenses at $2,000 is to be highly commended, according to the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).   "The IPA was vocal in its opinion that the cap proposed by the previous government was backward in thinking and would only act in Australia settling for mediocrity," said IPA chief executive officer, Andrew Conway speaking from the IPA National Congress.

"The new Government has been quick to revert what would have been a very bad policy,

"For the accounting profession the need to keep up to date is paramount and is amongst the highest of all professions.

"That is why we run events such as our National Congress this week which attracts many informative speakers and presenters; a cap as proposed would have detracted from an event which shares significant knowledge across the profession," said Mr Conway.
